Process Paper
To decide what we wanted to argue with our website, we first chose a smaller topic. We chose to do something presiding with September 11th, 2001. We began to read up on the events, and what lead to them. Thus, we decided to research what had lead up these events. With a little background reading on the events, we chose to do how the US government’s former involvement with Osama Bin Laden, more so Afghanistan, the Mujahideen, and the Taliban led to these events.
To begin our research, we thought it would be best to watch documentary films regarding the Soviet Afghan War and the War in Afghanistan. We wanted to find out in what ways the US helped the Mujahideen, and their connections to Osama Bin Laden. We also wanted to figure out with the second documentary the aftermath of 9/11. After we found the facts we wanted, we searched online databases of newspaper articles to look for in depth analysis of all of the facts and arguments we were going to make. We also wanted to find primary source documents, preferably from the US government, about what officials said about the situations at hand.
The next step of the project was to organize all of our thoughts on an outline, before we would make put website. We organized every argument we were to make, in what would be paragraphs, which eventually would be converted to paragraphs on the website. For each argument we made, we made a folder with all the sources that we would use to construct the argument. Next, we typed out the argument, and found an accompanying image. We created the website, uploaded the paragraphs and images, and made sure the format was made to our outline.
The project relates to the NHD theme in that it is a website, that was constructed similar to a research paper, but used other methods to illustrate ideas. The website was able to include everything that would be needed in a research paper. However, it was easier to put together, and to construct arguments, because of the nature of the website.
